Is your computer running much slower now than
when it was new? Are you experiencing
unexplained system crashes or does your PC lock
up for no apparent reason? Or even worse, have
you been confronted with the blue screen of
death?
These are all common symptoms of a corrupted
Windows Registry file. On a Windows based PC,
configuration information is stored in a
database called the Registry. All of the
information about your system, its hardware,
software, and user profiles is stored there.
Every time that you install or uninstall
software, the registry file is modified. Over
time, unless you perform maintenance on this
file, it will grow to become a huge file with a
lot of unused and unneeded information that
simply clogs up your system. Even if you do
perform an uninstall to get rid of programs you
no longer want, the installer does not actually
get rid of all of this data and leaves a lot of
leftover junk in the registry.
Fortunately, there is a rather simple fix to
this problem that will speed up your PC and get
it running like new again. What you need to do
is clean your registry. You could do this
yourself manually, but unless you have a lot of
experience editing the core Windows
configuration programs, I would not recommend
it.
There are many Registry Cleaner programs
available that will perform this function for
you very quickly and easily. Many of them have
a scheduler feature that will allow you to just
set them up once, then they will continue to
clean your registry on a preset schedule, so
your PC will always be operating at its
best.
TIP: One thing that I would highly recommend
you do before making any changes to your PC,
especially editing the registry, is to create a
system restore point. It is simple to do, and
you'll be really glad you did if you ever have
PC problems. The system restore point allows
your PC to go back in time and use all the
settings that were in effect prior to your
changes. In Windows, the way that you do this
is by running the System Restore Wizard from
the help and support center. Once you're there,
simply follow the instructions.
Personal computers are incredibly complex, high
performance machines. In order to have them
continue to perform at peak efficiency, they
unfortunately do need a little maintenance. The
Windows registry is a primary component of the
Windows operating system that does need
periodic maintenance. The good news is, this
can all be done simply and automatically for
you with the right Registry Cleaner
utility.
